Impression of: Rise of the Guardian

****(Quotes that I included are from what I heard so it might not be accurate)

Before I start talking about the movie, I want to say something.

Recently, I felt very negative about things around me. I guess it could have been the stress and tension from last week of school when everything was due. But it is also because I lost my clear view of my passion. Why am I studying design and why do I want to study design? Then, I realized that I was over thinking and over analyzing whatever that came across. Watching 'Rise of the Guardian' lit up my passion to remind me why I wanted to design.

"what's your center?" - Santa -

Rise of the Guardian (RG) is a pack of wonderful magic and beautiful animation. It certainly uses 3D effects very well. From all year around, I saw one or two animations that use 3D. However, they did not pop out and immersed me in the animated world inside the movie. On the other hand, RG does great job creating the 3D immersion.

RG has lot of movement throughout the movie. Because of the perspective and angle of the camera they chose for the scenes, 3D made more sense because it created depth. I felt as if I was surround by the animation even though they were popping out from screen in front of me. Settings were vast and beautiful. Tooth Fairy's palace has beautiful colours. Not to mention the tooth fairy herself. Each of the characters radiates different characteristics through intriguing colours and character design that reflects it.

After watching it, this movie left me with warm and fuzzy feeling as if I was in a pleasant dream. It reminded me of Polar Express. Polar Express is different from Rise of the Guardian but these animations know how to move the audience and present the beautiful 3D world that is unforgettable. These two movies touched my heart and I realized that this is what I want my design product or media to do for the audience. Time for me to bright up. :D

Game Review: Ib

I finally got some time to play a game after the summer semester is over. I have been hearing that that this new game, "Ib", is popular recently. I watched some gameplay by a person named Cry on YouTube and decided to try it out.

Ib is a nine year old girl, who visited an art gallery. During her visit, she ends up in a creepy and mysterious world.

Throughout the game, you use space bar to proceed in dialogue; the click/select and arrow keys are for controlling the movements of the avatar. The secondary mechanics of the game are puzzles and tasks that you have to accomplish to be able to open the locked doors, escape from the monsters, headless statues, and etc. Overall, it has a simple game interface.

Besides the aesthetics in the game, the story and puzzles are intriguing because it is enriched with different events and level of complexity.

There are many creepy creatures throughout the game. I personally thought the dolls that follow Garry around was the most eerie character in the game.

In most parts, you have to check out the surroundings (bookshelves, paintings, etc) to get the clues to solve the puzzles throughout the game. The difficulty is just about right for me because I was stuck twice and everything else went pretty smoothly.

It was a little review of what I thought of the game. Overall, the game was really fun.

Also, I got the best ending!

Richmond Night Market

It was such a beautiful weather but I was stuck at home working on my assignment, which was due tomorrow. By 4pm, it was unbelievably warm, so I had to migrate from my 3rd floor room to 1st floor to escape the oven like heat.

In the evening, I went out to Richmond Night Market (old one) with my aunt. Yes, it was definitely cooler outside but I got bitten by many mosquito bites.

It was very tasty squid with roasted tofu beside.

Finally, I got Chopper. I chose him over Nyanko Sensei. Next time, I'll buy Nyanko Sensei when I find a bigger one.

Chopper is so adorable^^

Have a good weekend. Go out and enjoy the weather.

Surprise for Kirby Friend

Unfortunate event happened to Kirby (nickname of my friend) the day before. We planned to cheer him up and celebrate his belated birthday. Most of our Team Extravaganda arrived at 2pm to start preparing the food for Kirby's birthday dinner. We tried to make Korean sweet potato dish, strawberry mousse cake and my friend's special dish. After our 3 hours of cooking, we managed to make a decent meal. Cheered up Kirby for sure when he arrived :)

Starting

Hello,

New blog. I'm starting out something new this year. Making an effort to do more tasks than I can is one of my list of new year resolution in 2012. I've decided to make blog because of this and also improve my skill in communicating.

I hope you enjoy my future posts :)
